Competition 2020

In partnership with Pen to Print, The Matchgirls Memorial has launched a New Competition

 

 

 

 

THEME: THE MATCH GIRLS

 

In 1888 over 1,400 young women walked out on strike from Bryant and May’s match factory in Bow, East London. This was the first successful strike of women factory workers and led to better, safer working conditions for all. See here for more about the Strike.

 

The Matchgirls Memorial is a charitable organisation established to highlight the Strike and remember the Strike leaders’ in the form of a permanent memorial.

 

This is our first creative arts competition

 

There are three categories:

Poetry

Flash Fiction

Phone Film

 

Entry Deadline: Midnight on 31st December 2020

 

Prizes:

First prize:

  • £50 for each of the three categories

  • Publication on our website

 

Runner’s up:

  • Publication on our website

 

Entry Fee: £2 per poem/story/film

Poetry

  • Poems up to maximum of 40 lines

  • Must be unpublished

  • Do not put your name on your poems

  • Put your name and contact detail in the body of your email

  • Pay entry fee via our donation link and email us your poem with your paypal reference

Flash Fiction

  • Maximum 200 words

  • Must be unpublished

  • Do not put your name on your stories

  • Put your name and contact detail in the body of your email

Phone Film

  • 1.5 – 2 minutes

  • Must be shot on a phone

  • Must be unpublished online

  • Upload to YouTube, set to unlisted and send us your link in an email with your paypal reference
